Daddy Funk – THE drum teacher to have in Birmingham!
As well as photography, I make short films and promos. My UK based company (Boxhead Media) is where all of my films live, as well as on my vimeo page. You can also click on the image above to see Daddy Funk’s promo video!
Over the last year, I’ve been filming a lot with Daddy Funk (a.k.a. Simon Greenhill). Whenever, I shoot a film, I always try to get my stills camera out and get some behind the scenes shots to use and some action shots whilst we’ve got the lights up! With Simon, we did just that and he performed magnificently!
Simon is a great drum teacher and really is a guru in the industry. He has so many endorsements (Istanbul Agop Cymbals & Los Cabos Drumsticks, in association with BR Distribution in the UK), and so much talent that if you want a drum teacher and you live in Birmingham, he’s the man to see.
In January 2016, we filmed a promo video together. This showcased his talents and highlighted his skills as a drummer and a teacher. Click here for the video.
In September, we filmed his teachings which will be spread out over several different videos. Keep an eye out on his all new, and very cool website and for the new DVD’s and digital downloads, to get all of that amazing information from his brain into yours!
A little about the film shoot:
This was a multicam shoot, with 5 different cameras and Dave the audio guy. Dave always does an amazing job and after listening to the audio masters, he has definitely done it again! So there was a footcam, an over the shoulder cam, a birdseye cam a front wide cam and a closeup cam! We shot around 600gb worth of footage over 2 days and I think all involved were knackered after two long days!
I am now deep into the editing process. With multicam shoots, you need a hefty computer and this project is no exception. I have 5 video timelines, one 1080p and 4 4k, so my 6 core i7 processor, with 64gb ram and enough ssd’s to put a smile on Bill Gates’ face, just about deals with it in real time!!
The great thing with editing pieces like this is that I get to learn so much about the subject. As I go over the pieces with a fine toothed comb to make the film a smooth and easy piece to watch, I pick up so much information. For this one, it’s like I get a three week intensive drum training course crammed into my brain and there is so much information for you guys in this one!!
A little about the photoshoot:
I shot these photographs with my 6D and a samyang 24mm f1.4. This lens and camera combo gives amazing results. I keep the f-stop down around f2 and it gives that lovely shallow depth of focus at the wider angles, which gives a pretty unique look. This gets the viewer focusing on what you want them to. When we release the footage, early in 2017, I’ll post about it on this site and my film site, Boxhead Media.
